Our History
The University of Wollongong Hockey Club contains a rich history dating back to its birth in March 1962.
The immediate interest in the club allowed two sides, both 2nd grade, to play in the 1962 Illawarra Mens Competition. By 1972 the club boasted five teams in the Mens competition, with a separate women's club closely affiliated. Sadly the team number was dropped back to four after that immediate season, but again returned to five in 1975. The first intervarsity was embarked on in 1972, with a credible result of 7th. This has since become a routine part of the clubs yearly agenda.
Our club has since merged with the University of Wollongong Womens Hockey Club and created its own junior teams. The club celebrated its 40th birthday in 2002, and in 2005 had seven mens teams, five womens teams and seven junior teams.
